Tiny Animation #15: The Adventures Of UNIMOG
A little over a month ago, I was out on the town with my band mates from UNIMOG. Once the bars closed, we decided to go get something to eat. As we were about to get under way, two drunk asses mistakenly tried to get into my friend's car and all hell broke loose. While I have for the most part stopped my habit of recording bits and pieces of my everyday life with my phone, the phone WAS recording the events of the night and I got this moment on tape. It was a bonding moment between band members.

Black Friday
About a week ago, I wrote this song "Black Friday" for my punk band, UNIMOG. Yesterday, I started playing around with my drum machine, just old style hip-hop beats... and it ended-up with my translating the punk rock song into a hip-hop track. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the video completed for Black Friday, but it probably doesn't matter as everyone was out shopping.

Moving Picture #006 (Spring)
My friend has been suggesting that I do a piece using leaves, flowers, etc. probably since I created my first moving picture composition. Everything came together over the weekend and I was able to complete this, which is the first piece using my new camera. I didn't intend to show the edges of the paper, but I couldn't come-up with a solution to get the camera closer to the ground. This also features my favorite new piece of music in quite a while.

0degreesK :: Spirits :: Round One
This has been going-on a little behind the scenes. I created the 0degreesK :: Spirits site to keep track of all the different cocktails as I try them. For a while, I didn't know what to do for the images of the drinks. Do I grab them from the places that I get the recipes? What if they don't have images for their recipes? Then, I thought of the whole Tiny Animation technique of animation I'd been using and tried it out. Here is a compilation of all the cocktails I've tried over the past month or so.

Tiny Animation #14: Abstract Space Quarter
This is basically a test to see how stop-motion would work using tiny animation stills. I'm happy with it for the most part, but there are a couple of things I don't like. Ultimately, it served its purpose and I'm going to begin working on a full-scale piece now.

0degreesK :: Spirits
During the holiday season late last year, I attended a few cocktail parties with a friend of mine. He told me about this guy who made amazing drinks. He was right. I just asked him to surprise me each time he asked what I wanted. And he did surprise me. Actually, he impressed me a lot. Then, a week or so later I start thinking about it and decide to give it a shot myself. Naturally, I can't just do something... I've got to make a project of it. So, I built this site to document and share my discoveries.

0degreesK :: Page-A-Day
For Christmas, I was given a daily calendar. You know, the kind of thing where you have a sheet for every day that features a game or a quote or a word for the day? Well, this one featured a sudoku puzzle, a quote for the day and a large area for notes or a to-do list. After the first few days of faithfully completing the calendar, I realized that it was capturing an abstract snap shot of my life. So, I whipped-up this site to document it.

Tiny Animation #9: Burrito Buggy (Faux Shuffle)
In Athens, Ohio, "The Shuffle" refers to hitting every bar, from the Cat's Den on Union Street all the way up to... whatever The Greenery is today on Court Street, in a single night. If I remember correctly, that was about 24 bars, and you had to have a drink in every... single... bar. One of the gimmicks of performing a shuffle was to name your shuffle (i.e. "The DaydreamTV Shuffle") and have a commemorative t-shirt signed at each bar.

The vast majority of people who complete (or even attempt) a shuffle end-up getting carried-off to home, vomiting the entire way. That's just way too much liquor for most people to drink in a 6-8 hour period. But, there are a lot of poseurs out there who just like to wear the t-shirt and claim they completed a shuffle.

We didn't like these people at the Burrito Buggy.

Tiny Animation #8: The One About A Walking Taco
A "walking taco" is where you open up a bag of Fritos, dump in all the stuff you like on a taco and then mix it all up. What's better than that? How about a walking BURRITO?!? And, that's the connection to this series' most popular topic.

In this episode, AE tells us the story of his bell from the "Church of the Living Dead" as one of us put it. It was put on backwards which prevented it from swinging freely. Tiny Animation #5: Melting (A Vision)
So far, this piece demonstrates the power of the tiny animation series the best. While I was coloring the cells, I was upset with myself because I thought it was a good piece and I was ruining it by using markers on it without trying them out on a lesser piece or a demo. After scanning and assembling the bits, though, I came around to love the final production. I still need to get better markers, though... these are horrible.

McBeats
A co-worker sent me a few audio files of things he was doing on the drums and guitar. I used these bits as the basis for this track, which is essentially a... learning experience on how to use Logic Express 9 to create loops and then assemble a composition using those loops. Cyan Auto Blues
The past weekend was spent creating master, redundant archives, swapping external hard drives and upgrading my laptop to Leopard (finally). Without getting into what that means, it basically amounts to having a lot of downtime away from my computer. I picked-up the guitar for the first time in a LONG time and liked this easy progression, so I had to break-out the Tascam Porta07 to record it. It was nice going back to 4-track simplicity, but I'm still looking forward to getting my copy of Logic Express in the mail soon. The title comes from the song's dedication to a friend who loves the blues.

2009 60bpm Season's Greeting eCard
Like I said yesterday, at the latest possible moment, I decided to create a holiday eCard. Well, here's the final result, less than 24 hours later! To be honest, I grabbed the existing Flash animation from a piece I did way back in 2001, when I first met Harry Christmas, and the music player is from my music portal. Still, it was quite a feat to get this out the door. My Photoshop skills are impressive, no?

Harry Christmas "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy"
Today, at around... 1:30 PM, I thought, "Hey! I should make a holiday eCard for 60bpm!!!" Up to this point, I'd only recorded two new Harry Christmas tracks, and I'd originally planned on four. Well, that wasn't going to happen, but I knew we could put one more together. Harry chose this track, expressing his desire to flex the golden pipes one last time. This is ALL Harry! Season's Greetings From EYEMG Interactive Media Group
While this isn't really a creative item that I created on my own time, it took away enough creative energy and studio time over the previous weekend that I'm counting it as today's submission to this project because I had to take a day off. Yeah, I know, sort of defeats the whole purpose. Regardless, it inspired me to create a new 60bpm sub-domain for my interactive creations. I already have the next one in mind!

Dot-Dom Champions League 2010 Warm-Up
The office foosball organization was playing short-handed for a while, so I came out of retirement to play defense on Holland United. After a month or so, we began talking about how much fun it would be to create a regular wrap-up of the best moments from our games, something like "This Week In Baseball", for our company's upcoming portfolio site. This is my first attempt at realizing the idea. In the future, we'll have the camera mounted directly above the table, which will improve the visibility of what's going-on. For now, this will have to do. BTW... the names are all goofs. I'm sure we'll come-up with better ones, but I needed something to go with last night.

Imperfect Machine
I'd planned on doing a picture for today, but while transferring some files I picked-up the guitar and this came out. I thought it'd be more interesting to make a bit of music. I tried working on the Tascam Porta07, but guess what... the one that can mix down can't erase the 4th track! So, put both machines together and I have one that works because the other one can't mix down. Anyway, this was recorded directly through my FA-66 and it's changed a lot from the original idea during my struggles to record it. I have a great video in mind for it, but it will take a while to complete.

Moving Picture #003 (Modern Day Cave Painting)
The artwork for this composition was finished over a month ago. As a matter of fact, it was the lack of follow-through on this piece that caused me to begin 1209 (one piece per day in December 2009) of which this is the fourth item. The theme of a "modern day cave painting" is derived from a painting I made over five years ago. The original piece resembled pre-historic cave paintings more than this one, but I think the style is similar.

Passion Flower
Here is a soundbed for a Moving Picture video that depicts what I called "modern day cave paintings." Last night was the first time I tried to use my studio after introducing my patch bay into the mix. It gave me fits. I was all ready to work and I just ran into technical issue after technical issue. Finally, I just pulled my Tascam Porta07 out and worked on that. The rhythm came easy, but I didn't know what to do after that. I guess I was just frustrated. This morning, I threw the rest together.

Guerrillero Heroico
The first item of one per day for December 2009. It's a picture. Looking for something to watch last night, I found the first part of Steven Soderbergh's Che. While reading about him afterwards, I found this image that just about everyone is familiar with. I'd thought of creating one thing, every day, during this month of December 2009, because I'd produced nothing in November, and doing a lightbox seemed like such an easy way to begin that I chose this as the subject. Who hasn't at this point?
