Moving Picture #004 (Mode II Crack)
With some help from a friend, I was finally able to get two axes (left-to-right and up-and-down) moving at the same time. Once again with this moving picture technique, the artwork for this composition was finished well over a month ago, and the video itself was captured late last month. Oh well, hopefully things get moving more quickly now.

McBeats
A co-worker sent me a few audio files of things he was doing on the drums and guitar. I used these bits as the basis for this track, which is essentially a... learning experience on how to use Logic Express 9 to create loops and then assemble a composition using those loops. This is something I've wanted to be able to do in a single package for a long, long, long time.

Echoes And Beyond
While the legend that Pink Floyd's "Echoes" was composed as the soundtrack for the final section of Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" may not be true, the two elements do compliment one another quite well when played simultaneously. See for yourself.

Cyan Auto Blues
The past weekend was spent creating master, redundant archives, swapping external hard drives and upgrading my laptop to Leopard (finally). Without getting into what that means, it basically amounts to having a lot of downtime away from my computer. I picked-up the guitar for the first time in a LONG time and liked this easy progression, so I had to break-out the Tascam Porta07 to record it. It was nice going back to 4-track simplicity, but I'm still looking forward to getting my copy of Logic Express in the mail soon. The title comes from the song's dedication to a friend who loves the blues.

2009 60bpm Season's Greeting eCard
Like I said yesterday, at the latest possible moment, I decided to create a holiday eCard. Well, here's the final result, less than 24 hours later! To be honest, I grabbed the existing Flash animation from a piece I did way back in 2001, when I first met Harry Christmas, and the music player is from my music portal. Still, it was quite a feat to get this out the door. My Photoshop skills are impressive, no?

Harry Christmas "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy"
Today, at around... 1:30 PM, I thought, "Hey! I should make a holiday eCard for 60bpm!!!" Up to this point, I'd only recorded two new Harry Christmas tracks, and I'd originally planned on four. Well, that wasn't going to happen, but I knew we could put one more together. Harry chose this track, expressing his desire to flex the golden pipes one last time. This is ALL Harry! No effects or anything... wow, what a talent.

60bpm :: Interactive
Yesterday's posting of my new Flash piece inspired me to create this site listing all of the Flash pieces that I've built over the years. I guess it's also a proactive start of something amounting to an online Flash resume.

Season's Greetings From EYEMG Interactive Media Group
While this isn't really a creative item that I created on my own time, it took away enough creative energy and studio time over the previous weekend that I'm counting it as today's submission to this project because I had to take a day off. Yeah, I know, sort of defeats the whole purpose. Regardless, it inspired me to create a new 60bpm sub-domain for my interactive creations. I already have the next one in mind!

dancing by starlight in a circle of fire
Using an X-acto knife on a black velvet mat, I've created a new technique for myself. Special thanks to Amy for providing the new medium.

Harry Christmas "Let It Snow"
Harry Christmas got into the studio over the weekend to record a second track for the EYEMG 2009 Holiday eCard. It turns-out that the guys in charge liked both songs, so I had to modify the piece at the last minute to give the audience a choice of which to listen to.

Dave Matthews
This is yet another piece made for a Christmas card. I have two more to make and then I'm done. The subject for this piece is Dave Matthews. I've never actually listened to any music by Dave Matthews on purpose. As a matter of fact, I usually make a point of avoiding it.

Tom Colicchio
This piece was made for a Christmas card. The subject is Tom Colicchio, the head judge for Bravo's cooking show Top Chef.

Ronald Reagan
My lightbox interpretation of Ronald Reagan. I thought of doing this immediately after completing Guerrillero Heroico (1209A0) for obvious reasons. This is one of my favorite lightbox pieces.

Sometimes Silver
It can't always be gold. I said this at the end of each track during recording, but I cut the file short. This one sneaked-up on me. There were many things on my mind and I was exhausted.

Dot-Dom Champions League 2010 Warm-Up
The office foosball organization was playing short-handed for a while, so I came out of retirement to play defense on Holland United. After a month or so, we began talking about how much fun it would be to create a regular wrap-up of the best moments from our games, something like "This Week In Baseball", for our company's upcoming portfolio site. This is my first attempt at realizing the idea. In the future, we'll have the camera mounted directly above the table, which will improve the visibility of what's going-on. For now, this will have to do. BTW... the names are all goofs. I'm sure we'll come-up with better ones, but I needed something to go with last night.

Winter Games (Stop-Motion Sketch)
While talking to the other guys at work last week, some ideas involving stop-motion video were brought-up. Here's a quick-and-dirty bit of that at 60 bpm. More to come in the near future.

Daler Mehndi
Here is my lightbox interpretation of "The Undisputed King Of Pop" Daler Mehndi who recorded such great tracks at "Tunak Tunak Tun". The guys at work brought him up during lunch today and he's now stuck in my head, but at least he pushed Miley Cyrus out! These lightbox pieces can be so crazy to do sometimes because I can't help but completely focus and ponder the subject. In the end, I came-out thinking Daler Mehndi is a pretty cool guy.

Harry Christmas "Carol of the Bells"
This is quite an exciting moment: The return of Harry Christmas!!! He released a four song holiday album back in the winter of 2002 to wide critical and commercial acclaim, but abruptly retired and was nowhere to be found... until now! Considering he accomplished what he did back then without half the tools he has at his disposal today, we can only think that this is just a starting point. You rock, Harry!

60bpm :: Cross-Country Journal :: Entry 5
The fifth entry into the 60bpm :: Cross-Country Journal finds our protagonist entering the city of St. Louis, Missouri. It's my first attempt at classic animation using After Effects. There's got to be a better way of doing this, but who can I ask? It's getting easier, but I've still got a long way to go.

Computer-based hand spliced via computer and enhanced by the hand. I don't know where this came from, but I had a vision of this image in my head. It changed a little, but not much. The scanned image of the hand wasn't there at first.

Imperfect Machine
I'd planned on doing a picture for today, but while transferring some files I picked-up the guitar and this came out. I thought it'd be more interesting to make a bit of music. I tried working on the Tascam Porta07, but guess what... the one that can mix down can't erase the 4th track! So, put both machines together and I have one that works because the other one can't mix down. Anyway, this was recorded directly through my FA-66 and it's changed a lot from the original idea during my struggles to record it. I have a great video in mind for it, but it will take a while to complete.

Scanner Totem
Today's submission in the 1209 project is a little different. To be honest, I didn't have a lot of time today after driving back from Athens, getting dinner ready and then heading for a family tree trimming session. It'll just have to do, though.

Moving Picture #003 (Modern Day Cave Painting)
The artwork for this composition was finished over a month ago. As a matter of fact, it was the lack of follow-through on this piece that caused me to begin 1209 (one piece per day in December 2009) of which this is the fourth item. The theme of a "modern day cave painting" is derived from a painting I made over five years ago. The original piece resembled pre-historic cave paintings more than this one, but I think the style is similar.

Passion Flower
Here is a soundbed for a Moving Picture video that depicts what I called "modern day cave paintings." Last night was the first time I tried to use my studio after introducing my patch bay into the mix. It gave me fits. I was all ready to work and I just ran into technical issue after technical issue. Finally, I just pulled my Tascam Porta07 out and worked on that. The rhythm came easy, but I didn't know what to do after that. I guess I was just frustrated. This morning, I threw the rest together.

Today's Lesson: Installing a Leader
Today's item features my Tascam 44 reel-to-reel that I recently installed in my studio. While creating this piece, I kept in mind the educational films of the 1950s, but resisted the urge to add the cheesy faux film grain filter or anything like that.

Guerrillero Heroico
The first item of one per day for December 2009. It's a picture. Looking for something to watch last night, I found the first part of Steven Soderbergh's Che. While reading about him afterwards, I found this image that just about everyone is familiar with. I'd thought of creating one thing, every day, during this month of December 2009, because I'd produced nothing in November, and doing a lightbox seemed like such an easy way to begin that I chose this as the subject. Who hasn't at this point?
